Probably another 3 generations or so, +100 every generation..we're at 493 or something right now. Fifth gen might go to 593, or 600 even.

New generation = People actually playing it at school = Me challenging them with my 4th-Gen imported team (hopefully). And did you know there's more Digimon than there are Pokemon?

Yea, I mean when you actually have all 500, and you have to choose between the, for example, 100 fire, 100 grass and 100 water types =P I can see that taking longer than a minute to just look at all the the ones you have, let alone decide which of those to use

Not a hard decision.

Just filter out the 97 of each that suck, and then it's a quick-and-easy call.

Because they look cool. Plus there very rare combinations out there as well (Rotom: Ghost/Electric).

Real trainers win with their favorites regardless of stats and abilities. That's why I always keep a Pikachu in my party regardless of who I'm facing, be it Mewtwo or Garchomp.

Hey, if they are extinct... you have the monopoly on that pokemon's fur/parts... Pidgeots, tastes just like chicken... Then there is Miltank milk... and who wouldn't want some classy Evee and related furs?

Or you can just kill them all over again for the heck of it.
